-Giving life your best performance
-Become emotion smart

Jim and Hannah were together for 2 years before they decided to get hitched. Six months into their marriage, they started experiencing differences like never before.

Soon enough, things took a difficult turn. They decided to call it quits on their marriage and sign up for divorce. Out of all the things you could possibly imagine, their big fight was about curtains.

You read that right.

The two couldn’t agree on the colour of their new curtains, and that was their relationship's finale.

It’s fair to assume that while a difference of opinion over the curtains may have added fuel to the fire, the real issue was something else altogether. Jim probably felt that Anna doesn’t respect him enough to honor his needs and Anna concluded that Jim would never fulfill her dreams and desires.

Behind every petty argument is a series of expectations and unmet needs that fail to be communicated in the right way.

This is the first sign of deeper work that lies unaddressed. And let’s face it, no one EVER taught us this stuff. As a result, getting frustrated and finding reasons to blame others is far easier than taking the time to understand what’s going on within.

So before you fall into the same trap with a significant other, first check in with yourself and get some insight into what you’re really upset about.

What need is not being met?
What in your current reality is different from what you’re expecting it to be?

Once you’ve got to the bottom of it, the next part involves expressing that out loud, but consciously.

Wondering how this is done? Well by simply conveying what’s important to you while being respectful of the other person and what might be important to them.

This level of awareness is all it takes to prevent your differences from blowing out of proportion.

Imagine being able to transform your complaints into better understanding and connection. Wouldn’t that be a treat.

The next time you’re involved in an argument take a moment to reflect, rather than get all riled up and escalate an issue into something else. Hopefully, it won’t involve a pair of curtains.
