Hacking time and money, achieving the extraordinary & creating a high vibe
What’s in store today:
-Hacking your relationship with time and money
-How to train your mind to do extraordinary things
-What it takes to be high vibe person.
There are two key things that guide our experience of life: time and money.
We want to extract the most from our finite existence on the planet and maximize the opportunities, choices, and comforts we can access during our limited time here.
This attachment combined with our aversion to loss in any of the two domains, creates some serious flaws in our judgment and decision-making.
Imagine spending millions on a project and continuing to spend big bucks despite realizing that it’s only heading toward a dead end. This happened for real with the Concorde where the British and French governments continued to invest in it long after realizing the economic rationale for it was pretty much dead.
Whether it’s big governments or the common man, the fact is that we all are easy to fall victim to the sunk cost fallacy, which basically describes our reluctance to abandon or change a course of action because of the investment that’s already been made in it.
This nuisance of a fallacy is the reason why people stay stuck in jobs they hate, keep betting on lousy partners because of how much time they’ve already invested in the relationship and persist with bad investment decisions owing to how much money has already gone into something.
As much as we pride ourselves on being logical and rational beings, emotions drive most of what we do. As in the case of the sunk cost fallacy it’s a no-brainer that fear and guilt often act as the culprits, that get the better of our wisdom.
Before we get to the strategies to counter this, think of all the situations in your life that are reflective of this problem…
Where are you continuing to invest your time that’s not resulting in any real gains? Where are you spending your money in spite of not getting high returns? What are you avoiding to change because of what you have been doing so far?
It might seem like there’s a lot at stake in the situation you’re invested in but if it’s not uplifting you in any way, it’s probably not worth investing any more time and effort.
We often let the past dictate us but being in the present is what inspires clarity and a shift in perspective. It’s worth checking in with your values and what’s meaningful to you, so you can reset and pivot ahead accordingly.
This brings me to acceptance, which is a big one. Often people carry on making the same bad decisions because denial becomes a way of coping with shock or regret. It’s only by accepting your mistakes that you can do something about them and move on, to the next plan of action.
It’s also worth considering your long-term vision and where you currently are. This gap creates a motivating creative tension to re-evaluate your decisions and make necessary changes, to bridge the gap.
As hard as it may feel, whatever situation you may be in, if it doesn’t feel 100% yes then it's a No. The sooner this is realized, the lesser the damage.
Time can be on your side if you let it.
How to train your mind to do extraordinary things
The mind is a double-edged sword. Use it to your advantage and you have a world of possibilities, but don’t train in the right way and there’s no end to limitations.
Luckily, there are people in this world who have learned to hack the mind in their favor and inspire others with just what is possible.
It’s exactly what my guest Jeff Griffin does in this episode…
As someone who experiences life from his wheelchair, he somehow managed to win several paralympic championships and even made it to the Guinness Book of World Records, twice.
Learn all about how Jeff trained himself to do extraordinary things and you can too.
Seriously, If there’s an area of your life that you’re holding yourself back in, you may want to tune in to this conversation.
What it takes to be high vibe person
Everyone drops the word ‘high vibe’ but very few know how to actually be it.
This video outlines some ways to achieve a high vibe state ‘permanently’, apparently.
If it acts as a powerful reminder for this year, that’s good enough.
