Owning control where it matters

Humans have a love-and-hate relationship with control.

At some level, we’re all control freaks. We’re obsessed with wanting things our way, dictating the ‘shoulds‘ and 'shouldn’ts’, and micro-managing every detail. We also love to own control when things go well, as we’re the first to jump in line to take credit.

But when life delivers misfortune, failures, and adversity- suddenly we’re scrambling to find reasons to blame everything beyond ourselves.

Take the case of little Molly.

5-year-old Molly was playing around the house when she accidentally knocked off the lamp, shattering it.

When asked by her dad what had happened, she said: “I don’t know Daddy, it just broke”.

As if the lamp suddenly decided to end it’s own existence.

While this story carries some humor with it, the sad reality is that we carry this same behavior into our adult lives....

When things go wrong, we’re quick to give up our power and adopt an external locus of control mindset.

Admitting to any fault feels too uncomfortable and can almost feel like a threat to our self-esteem. So in our minds, we equate responsibility with guilt or even worse, shame.

But in protecting our fragile ego, we unknowingly give away our power.

Blaming others or circumstances around us may seem like a safe escape but it’s actually the fast track to misery. Constantly living in fear, engaging in blame, and consequently conflict leads to stagnation.

On the contrary, warriors take ownership of their choices, face challenges head-on, and hold the reins to their destiny.

So, the next time life tempts you to make excuses or wallow in self-pity, remember this: real success comes from taking the bull by the horns.

Responsibility isn’t a burden—it’s your greatest superpower.

Conquering mental exhuastion

I’m a sucker for spas. And if you’re one to indulge in some pampered uninterrupted self-care, chances are you are too.

When feeling physically exhausted, going for a nap or hitting the spa for a soothing massage instinctively feels like the right thing to do.

But when it comes to dealing with mental exhaustion, we’re clueless.

Stress has become second nature, with overthinking as one of its biggest contributors.

And let’s face it- there’s not much joy in life if we don’t have a grip on our minds.

While managing the mind is a lifelong process, some tools can help us find peace faster, and that’s exactly what this challenge is for.

Join this 7-day mental reset exercise and together let’s start 2025 with a fresh slate.

The Winner’s Journal

Self-doubt can be paralyzing.

The constant questioning of one’s capabilities and the tendency to conveniently forget any accomplishments is enough to keep anyone stuck, destroying any scope of forward momentum.

Sometimes you need to reinforce the evidence the mind needs, which is why recording your wins regularly is imperative.

When self-doubt creeps in, all you need to do is open up that journal to be reminded of how far you’ve come and all that is truly possible.

I call it the Winner’s Journal- because every small win builds toward victory.
